FRIENDS ON TV DEPT.

My old pal SHIHAB RATTANSI was until recently an anchor on CNN International. He was the one with the posh voice and nearly crushing air of seriousness & dignity. (Not to be confused with Richard Quest, that absurd meth-taking muppet that Mr. Martin and I have long been interested in/horrified by.) Over many years and across many continents, I've made a stupid habit of taking (or trying to take) pictures of myself watching Shihab on hotel room TVs. Shihab just moved to a new job working for Al Jazeera America, which somehow I don't think I'll get around to watching quite so often. So in tribute to his long service to wandering new-viewers, I have put together a little photo album.

Shihab fans and people who like pictures of people pointing at television sets, please point yourself to:

Ah, CNN International: purveyor of the wonderful English language in foreign lands. Shihab and friends have kept me company during some long business trips...too bad he's gone. Who's next? Anjali Rao? Please, God, no!

Mr. Sachs,

Some of those photos, it looks like you were naked while watching Mr. Shihab. Particularly the Italian "floating head in a mirror" one.
Possible naked-ness doesn't automatically make pictures Art, but the pictures are interesting and the project is pretty funny. I hope you can keep up the good work with Mr. Shihab's change of channel -

this is almost as good as the site which solemnly dissects his suit n tie combos...

I have to concur that the element of watching shihab sans vetements adds a Batemanesque air of disturbingness which while not a necessary nor sufficient quality for categorisation as high Art, can't hurt...

I thought the whole point of CNN International was to watch it with your clothes off.

yeah the advent of RENOWNED CNN anchors moving to Al-Jazeera is extremely interesting. Riz Khan, interestingly a former BBC anchor, is another with semi-British accent and immaculate suits and handsomely chiselled yet smooth Indian features moved to Al-Jazeera English. Another is Teymoor Nabili.....

i travel a lot and came to find that Al-jazeera really does show the world in a different light. It's not anti- America, neither is it pro-Middle East. It's approach is telling the news stories as they happen whether they depict any country in a negative or positive light - just to get the story out there. I love love love, but unfortunately, it's not available in the US, not even on the internet. Oh well enjoyed your article!

O dear me Adam. I am sighing and metaphorically patting you on the head as I type. Put some clothes on man.
