HALL OF FAME OF PORK (I)

My friend Mr. MARTIN wrote a great guest post over at EatingAsia about the babi guling from Ibu Oka in Ubud, Bali. I truly have no idea what any of those words mean and it is possible he just made them up. But it all looks and sounds delicious, makes me hungry, and inspired me to post some images and notes on Great Pork Things I Have Eaten. First in the series: the almost pornographically juicy rosso tonkatsu from Hirata Bokujyou, Tokyo. (More on Tokyo eats HERE and HERE)

Your blog is amazing! You have been to so many great places I hope to see some day. I have a question.. How did you get your pictures to be so large? I guess I don't know much about html, but I am trying. Which template did you start with?
love the pics, very beautiful
He didn't make up the words. "Babi" means pig or pork and "guling" means roll or (the act of) rolling or it could also mean tossing but I don't know which fits the context best.
BTW you've got a fun job. I wish I could travel and earn a living at the same time. It must be amazing visiting all those places and learning a lot of culture as you go along.
Looks very yummy.
Haha. It's rolled pig. I think. I saw it on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. It looked so shiny and scrumptious, he swore it was the best pig he ever tasted.
I read the GQ article you did on your divorce. Damn. You are officially my new hero. If only I have your job, I wouldn't even go through the drunken misery part(well, mine was just a 2 year 'relationship'). Thank you so much for that article, one in seeing it's possible to not just heal, but be more than we ever were, and two, in reminding me that not every man is out to crush a heart or two for the sake of their ego manhood. There's so much going on in this world that the drama and incident that happened are just a speck of nothingness. I will remember to read the article again when i hit a stagnant mood, when I don't feel like moving. Thank you! And I'm gonna link your PDF in my blog if that's alright with you?
Looks yummi although my grampa used to say that "frying makes even shoe leather palatable"...
very nice work! James
I like the layout and theme of this blog ... keep up the great work!

you make me want to create a "for pork lovers only" blog.
That looks absolutely fantastic.
I've been reading through your blog, So interesting! =)
OMG...I'm in class right now and wanting to go eat. THis actaully looks yummy.
The 'babi guling' is all true! Excellent as it is just off the rack. I have it in May 2007 while there in Ubud.
"Babi guling" is Malay for "Rolled Pork". So, yeah, he didn't make the words up.
